- Advanced Practice Provider - PA/NP
Description
Functions independently in the primary care office setting in collaboration with a supervising physician. Includes Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Women’s Health settings. Emphasis on preventative care, chronic disease management, stable acute illness reprieve, health promotion, and illness/injury prevention.
Essential Functions
- Provide chronic care management to patients.
- Perform health histories, physical exams, and individual and group health education.
- Recognize abnormalities that justify immediate referral to a specialist per policy.
- Prescribe medications and order diagnostic studies & treatments per policy.
- Order, interpret, and follow up on lab tests and results.
- Supervise and assist the clinic staff in providing the established standards of care.
- Support clinic functions by participating in and implementing policy development and operational improvement.
- Participate in quality improvements.

Requirements
Physical Requirements
Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must speak English fluently and in understandable terms. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus. Must possess intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and finger dexterity. Must have the ability to react and perform in stressful situations.
Schedule primarily composed of weekday shifts.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Must have or be eligible for a DEA license. Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state one works. Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in NC required. BLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice. Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and concentrate.
Nurse Practitioner: Unrestricted RN license in North Carolina; official recognition by the NC Board of Nursing and NC Board of Medicine as an advanced practice nurse with prescriptive authority; board certified as an FNP by AACN or AANP.
Physician Assistant: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required; Master’s Degree preferred. Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.
Preferred: Chronic care management experience, diabetes management experience, proficiency in Spanish a plus.
