GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the general guidance of the medical director, the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with diseases and adverse health conditions following the written guidelines approved by the department.
The ideal candidate, will have surgical first assist experience and strong clinical competencies. Must be able to thrive within a high-functioning team. The provider's responsibilities will include assisting in the operating room (including endoscopic/open vein and endoscopic radial artery harvesting); rotating night call on weeknights and weekends. This position is a regional position allocating the majority of case coverage at Royal Oak but with occasional cross-coverage at Troy and Dearborn Hospitals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Recognizes deviations from normal in the physical assessment. Works in collaboration with a physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up.
- Requests written consultation from physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate and quality patient care.
- Interprets and evaluates findings of studies/tests.
- Relays appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician
- Evaluates the quality of care provided and recommends changes for improvement.
- Initiates appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the client.
- Administers therapeutic measures and obtains specimens as prescribed. of care provided and recommends changes for improvement.

- Dictates follow-up letters to referring physicians with summaries of treatment, response, and plan.
- Maintains provision of preventive health services (e.g. screening, risks assessment, immunizations, PAP smears, self-breast exam).
- Dictates or writes patient history, admissions, care plans, progress, and discharge notes.
- Provides on-call coverage.
- Performs patient triage and determines the urgency of physician's evaluation.
- Endoscopic Vein & Radial Artery harvest using the Hemopro 2 system
- First assistant: cases include CABG, aortic and mitral valve repair/replacement, complex aortic repair, aortic dissection, ECMO Insertion, IABP insertion, Impella, David procedure, Ross procedure, Robotic MV
- Perform procedures: central line placement, arterial line placement, chest tube placement, and groin cutdown
- Conducts patient interviews and documents patient histories
- Orders, schedules and/or performs laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures such as urinalyses, blood tests, and x-rays.
- Communicates necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled procedures to patient
- Participates in the care and medical decision making for preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative patients at Corewell Health.
STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS
Education / Training:
- Master's Degree in Nursing OR a Masters in Physician Assistant studies
Work Experience:
- 1 to 3 years’ experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in a Cardiovascular Surgery OR setting, strongly preferred.
Certification, Licensure, Registration:
- State of Michigan Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant license required
- AHA/ARC BLS certification required
