Description

The Alexandria Health Department is seeking a compassionate and proactive family nurse practitioner, motivated to make a difference in the lives of individuals and communities, to join our team. The Certified Nurse Practitioner Senior position is primarily responsible for providing direct patient care and case management within Alexandria Health Department’s population health clinical services. Additionally, depending on agency needs, this position may also be participating in public health emergency responses and preparedness exercises (e.g. emerging infections of public health significance, disaster preparedness, etc.). Areas of routine patient care include newcomer health, tuberculosis, immunizations, teen wellness, and sexual and reproductive health services. This position is also actively involved in quality assurance and process improvement efforts, including engagement with state and local partners, will be responsible for medication ordering and inventory management in compliance with licensure and program regulations, and will be providing employee health services for the agency.


Alexandria Health Department (AHD) is one of 35 health districts in Virginia. As part of the Virginia Department of Health, AHD serves the residents, businesses, and visitors of Alexandria and works closely with the City of Alexandria and community partners to achieve its mission and vision. Requirements

Required licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) with certification as a family nurse practitioner (FNP) to practice in Virginia. Intermediate clinical practice experience as a certified nurse practitioner. Eligible for prescriptive authority. Ability to function independently and exercise independent clinical judgments. Strong physical assessment skills with the ability to develop appropriate and comprehensive care plans. Ability to seek out and utilize community resources to address unmet needs. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with practiced cultural humility and literacy sensitivity. Knowledge and skills that promote strong teamwork, including conflict management, and engagement of healthcare team members in process improvement planning and implementation. Flexibility in scheduling with adjusted late evening hours once or twice per week required. Must be able to provide own transportation for work purposes.
