 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a highly responsible position requiring independent work in the management of a decentralized health records and management system including supervisory and/or administrative assignments.

 The essential functions of this position are as follows:

 Serves as the Health Information Manager (HIM). The incumbent must be able to understand the medical records systems, including paper and electronic medical records.  Responsible for the coordination and implementation of records management including records archiving, records destruction, and health records requests. Maintains an electronic and manual tracking system of health records. Responsible for the coordination and proper preservation, storage, and destruction, of all DOH-Broward records.   Receives, tracks, fulfills, and responds to all health records requests for the release of information.  Responsible for the receipt, routing, and response process for all client communication received through the HMS Patient Portal and CHD06 Post Website.

Performs other related duties as assigned.



Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience managing and maintaining an electronic and manual medical records unit as a Health Information Manager (HIM).
  • Experience supervising paid staff as a Health Information Manager (HIM) in a medical records unit.
  • Experience performing quality assurance and quality improvement of medical records in a Health Information Management System as a Health Information Manager (HIM).
  • Experience providing Health Information Management training as a Health Information Manager (HIM).

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of three years of experience managing and maintaining an electronic and paper medical records unit.
  • A minimum of three years of supervising medical records staff as a Health Information Manager (HIM).
  • A minimum of three years of experience in the operation and use of an Electronic Health Records System as a Health Information Manager (HIM).
  • Possession of RHIT (Registered Health Information Technology Certification), or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator Certification).
  • Bachelor’s degree in health information, organizational leadership, business or a related field with three years of related management experience, or a Master’s degree in health information, organizational leadership, business or a related field  with 1-3 years relevant management experience.
